Snake Pest Control
Snakes can become pests that need control just like rats, mice, gophers, moles, lawn grubs, nesting wasps and bees, termites, and roaches. Good facility and property hygiene is one way to deter pests of all kinds. Keeping trash, debris, weeds, and grass under control and well maintained can avoid many pest problems before they even start.
There are many reasons homeowners may experience snake infestations or problems with snakes in their homes, garages, sheds, or yards. There may be an increase in the local rodent population, there may be construction nearby that disturbed their natural habitat and drove them to move, or there may be a favorable habitat in the area attracting them. Whatever the reason for the appearance of snakes, their presence can be annoying and possibly dangerous.
There are many things that can deter snakes and rid them from areas where they are not wanted, like trapping, cleaning up debris and weeds and keeping grass cut short, and even using chemicals like napthalene.
There are some home remedies that can be very effective. Make a dry mixture of 2 cups sulphur, 1 cup moth ball flakes, and half cup crushed red pepper and sprinkle it in the area where snakes have been a problem. Or make a liquid mixture of 4 cups of ammonia and 1 cup of lemon-scented dishwashing soap and use it in the area to deter snakes. Cats can provide some snake control as well.There are even some plants that repel snakes: rosemary, lemongrass, marigolds, and wild garlic. These can be planted around property, along fences, and near houses and sheds.
If there are poisonous or very large dangerous snakes, professional assistance will be needed. Local animal control or exotic animal specialists are experienced in safe removal. Rattlenakes, coral snakes, and very large pythons should not be dealt with by homeowners and property owners but by professionals for safety.
